The Great IP Production Transition
Featuring
About This Tech Talk
IP-based video production, whether it relies upon SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, IPMX, Dante AV or other emerging protocols, has come into its own and is transforming how many shows are produced. While various forms of SDI will continue to be used for the foreseeable future, it appears safe to say that even many of these workflows are being augmented with IP-based transport and networking solutions.
The question on the minds of many considering adding IP networking to baseband workflows is how best to supplement existing SDI workflows to achieve short-term goals while protecting that IP investment for the long run. For those with greenfield sites, the question is similar: How will well with networking and transport protocol choices made today hold up as greater demands change in the future?

- What are the immediate and long-term benefits of an IP transition as well as any downsides?
- What new demands will IP media networking place on engineering resources and what if anything are vendors doing to reduce the complexity?
